Episode 27: Meeting with God
Many times our gathering together as believers comes short of
“Meeting with God.” What does it mean to meet with God? Why do we
gather together? What should we expect? What does God expect? What
is our part? Church meetings can take many forms. We may meet for
worship, to hear a musical program, to listen to a sermon, or just
to meet with each other. While none of these things are wrong in
themselves, God’s desire is that we meet with Him together. In the
Old Testament, the presence of God revealed in the midst of His
people was an awesome and sobering time. What is the counterpart of
this in the New Covenant?
• In the Old Testament:
o The Tabernacle (Exodus 40:34-38)
o The Temple (I Kings 8:1-13)
• The New Covenant
o Entering through the veil into the Holy of Holies (Heb.
10:16-25)
o Coming by way of the blood of Christ
o Coming as living stones, alive with the presence of God (1
Peter 2:4)
• To worship God
o To worship in spirit and truth
o To give Him His rightful place together
• To hear God
o Ministers speak as oracles of God (I Peter 4:11)
o To be fed with Christ (living bread)
• To be a vessel though whom God may manifest Himself to
others
o Prepared (right relationships)
o Sensitive to the Holy Spirit (alive, looking to God)
o Manifestation of the Spirit as He chooses (I Cor. 12)
• Jesus walks in the midst (Revelation 1-3)
o The messages were to the churches (not just individuals)
o The messengers were in the right hand of Jesus (Rev.
1:20)
o The purpose of God is to bring us together as one under His
authority
