Episode 42 The Renewing of the Mind
This is David Sheats on Anchor of Truth. To be able to think
clearly about all things requires that our mind be renewed. Our
thinking has been affected by many things that often results in
confusion. How is our mind changed to think as God thinks? Is that
possible? Paul tells us that the renewing of our mind is essential
to our transformation. He also appeals to the Corinthians to “be of
the same mind and the same judgment.” Is that possible? With so
many different ideas floating around today we may have become
discouraged and given up, but today we want to be encouraged that
our mind can be renewed and we can think as God thinks.
• Our minds need to be renewed (Rom 12:1,2)
o Affected by sin
o Affected by input from the world
o Affected by our own reasoning
• Renewal is a process
o Requires a regenerated heart (pure desire to know God)
o A desire to know the will of God to do the will of God (John
7:17)
o A humility to acknowledge that I may be wrong in my
thinking
• Scripture is an essential part of this renewal
o Gives us a history of God’s working
o Given to teach us about God
o Given for instruction in righteousness (2 Tim.
3:16)
• The importance of fellowship (Acts 2:42)
o Allows us to “think together” with others
o Forces us to articulate truth in our own words
o Enables us to partake of grace through others
o Humility puts us in the place of a learner
• Truth (understanding) comes for us to obey
o Walking in the light prepares us for more (I John 1:7)
o Obedience results in truth being made part of us (John
1:14)
o The word made flesh results in testimony to the world
